Recipe: Spaghetti Squash Stir-Fry

Recipe: Spaghetti Squash Stir-Fry

If you’re looking for a new way to enjoy spaghetti squash, this is it! It’s a hearty, flavorful, plant-based stir-fry with spaghetti squash noodles, crispy baked tofu, and tons of colorful veggies. It requires just 10 simple ingredients and is perfect for fall and beyond. Let us show you how it’s done!

Origins of Stir-Fry

Stir frying is a cooking method believed to have originated in China. Traditionally, stir-fries are cooked in a wok with a small amount of hot oil and continuously stirred. But since we don’t have a wok (and chances are you don’t either), we used a skillet for this recipe. You can take a deeper dive into the history of stir frying here.

How to Make Spaghetti Squash Stir-Fry

This stir-fry starts with the protein (a.k.a. the most delicious and snack-able tofu you ever will try!). Cubed tofu is tossed in toasted sesame oil and coconut aminos (or tamari), then baked until golden brown and crispy!

The next best part of this recipe (or can we call it a tie?) is the sauce! Creamy peanut butter (or your favorite nut or seed butter) mixes with coconut aminos (or tamari), maple syrup, and lime juice for a savory-sweet sauce. Optional chili garlic sauce gives it a kick of heat.

Next up we sauté the veggies and aromatics! We went with shiitake mushrooms, red bell pepper, garlic, ginger, and green onions. But when it comes to the veggies, this recipe is flexible — use what you have around. Other mushrooms, cabbage, or finely chopped broccoli or cauliflower would all be delicious options!

The main veggie in this recipe is one of our fall favorites: spaghetti squash! This recipe works well with leftover squash, but if you don’t have any around, make it in the Instant Pot (for speedy preparation) or oven (for extra caramelization). And if you’re new to this veggie, keep reading for our Spaghetti Squash 101 tips!

When the veggies, tofu, sauce, and (pre-cooked) spaghetti squash are ready, the finish line is near! Mix it all together until warmed, and this stir-fry is ready to serve with your favorite toppings (lime wedges, extra green onions, cilantro, and chopped peanuts are our faves!).

Spaghetti Squash FAQs

So you’re new to spaghetti squash and not sure what to do with this giant, rock-hard vegetable people say is like spaghetti? We’ve got you! We’ve compiled the top questions from spaghetti squash newbies and our best answers to get you enjoying this nutrient-rich veggie in no time!

How to Cut Spaghetti Squash

Carefully halve the squash lengthwise using a sharp knife. The best way to do this is by inserting the very tip of a very sharp large knife into the side of the squash (lengthwise). Then push it all the way through to the other side and rock the knife back and forth to cut one half all the way through. Repeat on the other side.

How to Cook Spaghetti Squash

Our favorite way to cook a spaghetti squash is to cut it in half lengthwise, scoop out the seeds and stringy parts, then cook it in the oven (for best flavor) or Instant Pot (if in a hurry or using it in a flavor-packed recipe).

How Long Does Spaghetti Squash Last?

Stored in a cool dry place (such as a shady spot on the kitchen counter), spaghetti squash will last for at least a few weeks and up to a few months. Once cut or cooked, store it in a sealed container in the refrigerator where it will keep for closer to 3-4 days.

What Does Spaghetti Squash Taste Like?

Spaghetti squash has a mild, slightly sweet flavor, making it perfect for pairing with flavorful sauces like marinara, pesto, or the stir-fry sauce below!

We hope you LOVE this spaghetti squash stir-fry! It’s:FlavorfulVeggie-packedColorfulVersatileBalanced& Perfect for fall and winter!

It’s great for meal prep or as a weeknight-friendly entrée if using leftover squash or preparing the sauce in advance. The tofu is optional if enjoying as a side, or you can swap in your favorite protein if enjoying as a main.

An extensive guide to vitamin C within skincare

An extensive guide to vitamin C within skincare

It also depends on your skin concerns. While 15 per cent or higher ascorbic acid is brilliant for treating more stubborn skin problems, Begoun points out that “for maintenance and to prevent problems, research has shown that even concentrations of 0.6 per cent of vitamin C have antioxidant and anti-ageing properties”. These lower concentrations can also help to repair and nourish the skin. Look to the product’s INCI list where, if found at a concentration of one per cent or higher, ingredients are listed in descending order of concentration.Does vitamin C work for all skin types? One of the most Googled questions about vitamin C is whether it causes pimples or prompts the skin to peel. The answer to both questions can’t be one hundred per cent certain, but in general irritation is unlikely to occur. “It delivers multiple benefits for all skin types, ethnicities and skin concerns, from dullness to dark spots, wrinkles and loss of firmness,” says Begoun.“A small percentage of people may experience temporary irritation when first starting a product with high concentrations of ascorbic acid (especially when formulated at a low pH, which is ideal for its effectiveness), but that should easily resolve over time as skin acclimates to it.” As you do with retinoids, she recommends slowly introducing it into your routine while monitoring the skin’s response, increasing regularity when you know it can tolerate it. Dr Zamani adds that vitamin C should actually improve many of these much-Googled issues because of its strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which help protect and heal skin.Should you use vitamin C in the morning or at night? So how does vitamin C fit into your skincare routine? Well, firstly you can use it every day, depending on how well your skin tolerates it. In general, most people use it in the morning to reap its antioxidant benefits during the day, when we’re faced with most external aggressors. However, Dr Zamani also recommends deploying it at night too. “I recommend starting with our Brighten and Perfect Serum daily in the morning, and if there are no signs of irritation after 10 to 14 days, I advise using it morning and night. In the morning it can be used to fight oxidative damage from UV exposure, and at night you can repair the skin while you sleep,” she says. Win win. What should you not mix with vitamin C?Once vitamin C was thought to be incompatible with lots of other ingredients, including retinol, but now there is plenty of research to suggest the opposite is true. “This myth has been around for a long time and still lives on several websites and blogs,” says Begoun. “You can absolutely apply vitamin C with niacinamide, peptides, AHA and BHA exfoliants and retinol – there is no single ingredient it shouldn’t be used with.” In fact, the science now shows that retinol and vitamin C actually work synergistically together to create healthier looking and functioning skin. Begoun references studies that have shown that applying both actives at the same time is great for ageing skin, particularly for women undergoing changes due to menopause.Which vitamin C products are the best? The vitamin C formulas that pack the biggest punch come in serum form, although you can also try moisturisers infused with the ingredient, as well as cleansers. The most effective combine vitamin C with other antioxidants, such as vitamin E or ferulic, so keep an eye out for those as well on ingredients labels. It’s also worth noting that vitamin C is ultra unstable, so when it’s exposed to light and air, it breaks down – you’ll find that most vitamin C formulas as a general rule are, therefore, housed in dark packaging to preserve the ingredient, however this will depend on how the serum is formulated.Below, find our edit of the best vitamin C serums to try now. Also read: 6 biggest skincare myths around Vitamin C, debunked How do you know you’ve got stress acne?If you’re washing your face till it’s squeaky clean, you are doing it wrong

Úrsula Corberó on ‘Money Heist’ Part 5: “This final season is the real war”

Úrsula Corberó on ‘Money Heist’ Part 5: “This final season is the real war”

When Alex Pina’s now-viral heist series La Casa De Papel first released in Spain in 2017, the show wasn’t met with a fraction of the enthusiasm and fanfare that it garners today. The cast even sought new jobs, that is until Netflix bought the title and changed its name to Money Heist. The high-octane drama became an overnight sensation with audiences around the world, with its final instalment set to hit screens on September 3. “I believe that the fifth season is the most brutal from any other we have done–for many reasons, mainly, due to the levels we came to harass the Professor’s band, our most radical limits are in this fifth season,” Pina shared in a recent interview. If the action-packed trailer is anything to go by, viewers are in for lots of surprising twists and turns.Ahead of the release of Money Heist part 5, Vogue caught up with arguably the wildest member of The Gang, Tokyo, essayed by Spanish actor Úrsula Corberó. The 31-year-old’s no-holds-barred portrayal of an unabashed thief and passionate lover to Rio (Miguel Herrán) have made her one of the hottest characters to watch out for. Below, Corberó talks to us about the final season, her favourite character from the series, her fitness hacks, and more.Did you predict the huge success of the series while filming the first season?Well, actually the first and second season were shot in Spain and released on a national TV channel. So we had a beginning and an ending and it wasn’t supposed to go any further. Everyone then split up, went their own way, and that was it. Imagine one year later when Netflix bought the series and released it internationally—all the crazy things that you know about happened. I think no one expected it, and still now, we are digesting it and trying to figure out what happened. What should we expect from the final instalment of the show?Everything! With Money Heist we always try to go one step further—each season we become bolder and give the audience something new which is always something that makes you a little bit dizzy. And this last season is the real war and many things will happen. I can’t tell you much because I don’t want to make any spoilers but I can tell you that we spent two weeks with one stunt for an action scene and everything has been that way. I can also tell you that we actually created new sets for just a few scenes, so you can imagine how it was just from that.Who’s your favourite character from the gang and why?My favourite character is Arturito, always. I think Enrique, the actor who plays him, did an amazing job. It’s not easy to play a hideous character and I think he does it with the right dose of comedy. When I’m walking on the street, people stop me and tell me, “OMG, tell me that this season Arturito is getting killed!?” Imagine so much hatred for just one person! I also have this soft spot for him because he makes me laugh!Name three things you have in common with Tokyo. We have a similar kind of energy, we are very restless—very impulsive both of us—and also we are very difficult people to have an influence on when we believe in something—no matter what people say, we will do what we believe in.One of the many striking things about your on-screen performance is just how fit you are—what’s your fitness hack?I have to start by saying that one of my keys is to eat a lot of Spanish omelettes. I don’t know if you’re familiar with it but it gives you great strength! Nah, I’m kidding! With Money Heist, I had to start training in a way I hadn’t done before because I had to rise to the level of the physicality of everything, and I sort of realised that if I don’t train very hard, I’m going to suffer here. Especially for the third season, all of us had to go through a very strong training process. Sometimes when I watch the show I’m like, “OMG, I’m really, really fit!”, and I surprise myself! Also read:5 burning Money Heist theories that you need to read before you start part five Money Heist Money Heist Season 5: Everything you need to know about the Netflix show’s teaser, release date, cast and more

Celebrity dentists Advice: Best tooth treatments

Celebrity dentists Advice: Best tooth treatments

A candy lover, a diligent brusher, and thankfully, an inheritor of good genes, I get complimented on my smile the most. After one aesthetically-pleasing tooth implant and an in-clinic whitening treatment once every couple of years, my thoughts on perfect pearlies have begun and ended at gaps and colour. But there’s a world of anti-ageing dental interventions out there for those on a quest to that coveted celebrity twinkle. Today, dentists can manipulate the size, shape and arrangement of teeth to subtract years from a face. “If you’re not satisfied with your smile, modern cosmetic dentistry can completely transform your look. This method of professional oral care focuses on improving the appearance of not just your teeth, but also your mouth, gums, and overall smile,” explains Dr Viraj Kakde, the Mumbai-based MDS prosthodontist and co-founder of Dent Heal Clinics, who has worked with names like Kartik Aaryan and Tara Sutaria.Whether you’d like to fix crowded teeth, a crooked smile, a misaligned jaw, discoloured teeth, or simply, one askew canine ruining an otherwise military line-up of gnashers, ahead are the best orthodontic treatments to opt for, their processes and the results you can expect.OrthodonticsTeeth-straightening braces may seem best reserved for the teens. But orthodontics have come a long way from the rubber bands and metal brackets, says Dr Viraj Kakde. “Orthodontic dentistry or an aligner treatment is no longer limited to kids. Clear braces or clear aligners are the best, most discreet solution for those who didn’t get a treatment done in their formative years. The new generation of invisible options we present at our clinic are perfect for their efficacy and also their aesthetic value as compared to traditional braces. And they can be combined with other treatment modalities for the most appealing results,” Dr Kakde adds. The biggest caveat about orthodontics, he shares, is user compliance. “Invisible braces can be easily placed and also taken off, but they need to be worn 22 hours a day. I recommend them for milder cases, while fixed braces are more effective for severe ones. However, with advancements made recently, certain aligner brands like Invisalign can treat very complicated cases.”Teeth whiteningFor most of us, particularly tea/coffee addicts, teeth-whitening toothpastes will not help rid surface stains or discolouration of any kind. But the different in-clinic whitening treatments can surely give you a reason to smile wider and brighter. “The safest and the most effective way to whiten your teeth is at the dental office under professional supervision,” says Dr Reshma Chawla, MDS (Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics) and the founder of Blanco Aesthetics. “LED based teeth whitening options have gained popularity in recent times, and for good reason. The two most popular treatments include Zoom teeth whitening and laser teeth whitening. The first process can transform the colour of your teeth within 45 minutes! At our clinic, we combine a peroxide-based gel along with the Zoom lamp to make for a sparkly white smile. You can leave the clinic with teeth that are 4-6 shades lighter with minimal to no sensitivity. Laser teeth whitening uses a peroxide based gel similar to the zoom but is activated using a laser, which increases the penetration of the whitening gel into the teeth. The results are fantastic and last upto 2 years. Teeth whitening is an instant, hassle-free process that can restore your confidence to smile within an hour. And God knows, we need to smile during these difficult times,” adds the celebrity dentist.Composite bondingThis treatment is ideal if your teeth are slightly misshapen (chipped or fang-like). “Bonding is one of the easiest and least expensive cosmetic dental procedures, which includes adding a resin (tooth coloured material) to the edges of the teeth to make them appear straighter. But bonding cannot make very crowded or crooked teeth look straight. We use composite resin that’s closest to the surrounding teeth for a natural effect. Most often, it is used for cosmetic purposes to improve the appearance of a discoloured or chipped tooth. Bonding can also be used to close minor spaces between teeth, and to make teeth look longer,” says Dr Kakde. A less demanding procedure, it entails a single sitting and usually takes about 30 minutes to an hour to complete. “Bonding usually lasts several years before it needs to be repaired,” Dr Kakde elaborates.VeneersFor pristine, straight, even-looking teeth, it doesn’t get any better than veneers. “A veneer is a new front facade for a tooth that’s tailor-made to match a patient’s face and shape of the teeth. They are crafted from high strength ceramic or porcelain. You can compare it to getting your nails done, however, veneers’ shelf-life goes decades. From making the teeth look bigger or smaller and changing the shape, to fixing broken teeth or discolouration (where bleaching doesn’t work), veneers can give a complete makeover,” says Dr Kakde. From the first consultation to final fitting, the process can take a few weeks. “Our procedure includes thorough analysis, taking a series of photographs and sharing mock-ups. In the next stage, we prep the teeth. This part is where we drill the front surface of the tooth very, very minimally to allow for effective bonding. Veneers look extremely natural, and are apt to accentuate the face. On average, veneers last about 15-20 years,” he adds.Tooth contouringIf you’re unhappy with the shape or size of your teeth, you can consider cosmetic contouring. “In simple words, it is the reshaping of the teeth that could be caused by unevenness or chips. My treatment includes using a drill or laser to remove the surface enamel, and it can be limited to just one tooth. It’s quick, painless and usually requires no recovery period, but as with every dental procedure, it’s not for everyone as it may affect your bite,” reveals Dr Kakde.Laser gum contouringIf a gummy smile is stopping you from saying cheese, laser gum contouring is for you. “As you may have guessed from the name, gum contouring can help reshape, lift or resculpt your gumline, using lasers. The idea is to cut excess gum tissue for a harmonious smile. In case of gum recession, the treatment involves restoring gum tissue. We also use it to excise the band of tissue that can cause a gap between teeth. While it sounds invasive, there’s minimal or no bleeding during the treatment, which minimises the need for stitches,” shares Dr Kakde. Also read: This brand-new smart toothbrush will let you upgrade your dental health game What does your smile say about you? This ancient Ayurvedic technique will give you a 1000 watt smile
